Noynoy Aquino is the consistent leader in any survey before the election. Why would INC ignore that? Naturally, INC will pick the one who will surely win. INC Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo is basically new to this kind of stuffs since he just took over the Manalo family business since Erano Manalo died last year(2009). As the new INC leader he should first establish his political status and go to the sure-winner. INC do not have the luxury to bet on a political loser like Manny Villar, Gilbert Teodoro and ERAP Estrada. Iglesia Ni Cristo previously endorsed ERAP Estrada as their president in the 1998 Philippine presidential election but INC dropped ERAP like a hot potato when Estrada was convicted of plunder.

Religious bloc-voting in the Philippines

El Shaddai's Mike Velade, Kingdom of Jesus Christ Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and INC minister Eduardo Manalo's decision on whom they are going to pick as the next Philippine president are being sought-after by politicians here in the Philippines. These 3 cult leaders are well known for giving an "alleged" substantial number of votes to the lucky politicians. Based on the recent report from businessmirror.com.ph, Quiboloy's followers are 6 million while INC's followers are only 3 million.

This is why I hate religious bloc-voting here in the Philippines. Politicians are falling on their knees in front of these "Church leaders" begging for their votes. It's a good thing that the Catholic Church here in Philippines does not dictates it's members to whom should they vote unlike Quiboloy and the Manalo family. In INC, members who are not following the INC' dictatorship in voting politicians would mean expulsion to their disobedient members.

They glorify the Manalo family too much that they would not even consider other people leading their church; their leader should always come from the Manalo family (this topic was already discussed in the Religious Dynasty page on this blog). The Iglesia Ni Cristo cult consider their founder as an angel, Felix Manalo is an ex-catholic. They even erected a bronze statue for their beloved leader to commemorate the life and death of their leader Felix Manalo.

Noynoy Aquino's popularity raised up after his declaration on running as the next Philippine president on next year's Philippine National election 2010. I think one of the major issue Noynoy had to answer before/during the election campaign is the Hacienda Luisita controversy linked to the Cojuanco-Aquino family. Which makes me think what might be the reaction of the Iglesia ni Cristo organization about this. I think this deserves a historical review between INC and the Hacienda Luisita.

Iglesia Ni Cristo members had a quite bitter experience on the Hacienda Luisita of the Cojuanco-Aquino family in Tarlac. INC members resigned from the union after being prompted by their church circular dated April 1, 1959. Expulsion from the INC church will be given to those who will violate the following circular.

Owning your own property (e.g. house and lot) in the United States is the American dream. It's because it is worth a fortune to own one. Iglesia Ni Cristo members are mostly poor Filipinos. In the province where I live, some of them are just tricycle drivers, office clerks but some of them are rich folks. Iglesia Ni Cristo chapels are well-known all over the Philippines for its modern-design and being painted with white, red and green color once in a while (so it appears it is always new and properly maintained).

What surprised me last February 2010 is that a report from San Diego Business Journal said that the Philippine-based Iglesia Ni Cristo cult was able to buy a property in El Cajon (around California USA) worth $1,755,000 (over 79,000,000 Philippine pesos). In a time where people are still suffering the effect of global recession and Filipinos are loosing their job, Iglesia Ni Cristo was able to buy a US church facility with the high cost of $1,755,000 (over 79,000,000 Philippine pesos)!!!

Possible reasons why Iglesia Ni Cristo would pick Manny Villar

1. INC cannot pick Noynoy because of their bitter experience in Hacienda Luisita
2. Manny Villar's poll rating is starting to catch up. INC cult cannot pick a candidate with low survey ratings(To ensure political favor).
3. Noynoy is a devout catholic.

I think this is also a perfect time to think about what kind of criteria does the Iglesia Ni Cristo leadership is using in picking the president that their whole church will be supporting. I'm assuming that Iglesia Ni Cristo members have no voice in picking candidates, it all depends on the Iglesia Ni Cristo leaders.

Religious Dynasty in the Philippines

With the Catholic Church's doctrine of Clerical celibacy, Philippines was saved from the Religious Dynasty of the Catholic Church. But Philippines were not spared from the Manalo family of Iglesia Ni Cristo. Iglesia Ni Cristo was founded by Felix Manalo during the 1940's. Felix Manalo died and handed down the INC administration to his son, Eraño Manalo. This year, Eraño Manalo died and it is widely believed that Eduardo V. Manalo is expected to take over the INC administration. This is a clear evidence of reasoning that the Manalo family obviously handles the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) church.
